Description: 

The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) shall provide rich and nurturing early learning environments for all children that align with Ontario’s Early Years Framework: How Does Learning Happen? They are responsible for implementing the values listed within St. Thomas Early Learning’s Program Statement in their daily practice. The Registered Early Childhood Educator will establish engaging and respectful relationships with families of the children enrolled in St. Thomas Early Learning Programs and will serve as a resource to families, providing information related to community supports that may benefit their children. The RECE is responsible for all duties related to health and safety requirements and all legislation that govern the daily operations of a quality childcare program. This position is under the supervision of the Program Supervisor and Centre Director.

Health days:  4 paid health days annually

  • Develop strong, caring, and respectful relationships with children and their families
  • Recognize each child’s unique needs, considering culture and family preferences and design programs to further support children’s development in identified areas
  • Develop a curriculum consistent with the Program Statement, policies, and the Ministry of Education’s Early Years Framework: How Does Learning Happen?
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including, but not limited to: child information, attendance records, sleep patterns, daily health, child development, injury reports, and completed cleaning procedures and report as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, well-sanitized, and safe early learning environment including, but not limited to: hallways, washroom, staff rooms, storage spaces, and outdoor spaces and report any needed replacement or repairs
  • Ensure the program is operating in accordance with the ELC program statement and implementation policy and the centre’s behaviour guidance practices
  • Identify any areas requiring special support and attention
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times while following all legislative requirements as found in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2016, Duty to Report, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, and all organizational policies and program statement
  • Support a healthy and safe work environment by empowering colleagues to be the best they can be and by encouraging relationships based on honour, respect, and honesty
  • Demonstrate effective communication and reflective practice skills while maintaining a respectful and non-judgmental attitude towards children and their families, co-workers, and community partners
  • Maintain a punctual schedule, accurate attendance records, and report any illness or emergency in a timely fashion
  • Attend all required meetings as requested and ensure work email is monitored on a regular basis
  • Participate in required organizational professional opportunities and demonstrate a desire for ongoing personal development to continue to grow professionally
  • Share goals and objectives as part of a staff goal setting and performance management plan as needed
  • Act as a resource to parents and co-workers, provide timely community referrals to families
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of students
Requirements: 
  • Vulnerable sector police check
  • Standard first aid and CPR c/AED certificate
  • Immunization record or statement of conscience or religious belief
  • Diploma in early childhood education
  • Registered with the college of early childhood education
  • New ECES can begin employment with successful completion of the ECE program and have proof that they have applied to the college of ECE and are waiting for their registration number
